about us
It’s undeniable: women in Louisiana face bleak statistics. Data from various studies suggests the state has the second-largest pay gap between women and men in the nation, ranks ninth in the rate of women murdered by men and offers women worse access to health care and economic opportunities than most other states across the country. With more than 22 percent of Louisiana women living in poverty, many women face inequities in their day-to-day lives that often prevent them from reaching their full potential. That’s why Owning Our Voice Coalition is committed to helping Louisiana’s women overcome the barriers they face and empowering them to achieve more for themselves and for their communities.
Our organization is comprised of women who have worked in industries and managed businesses putting them at the forefront of day-to-day challenges vulnerable women are faced with in seeking independent financial empowerment, issues of stigma in chosen occupations and the barriers facing women who seek safety in legal system, support with mental health and addiction services and so much more. Investing in these women will save precious law enforcement resources by creating effective on-the-ground partners in identifying, preventing and solving crime. Victims are often hidden in plain sight, voiceless and scared. Owning Our Voice Coalition serves as their voice.
